Alan McDowell, formely a National
Hunt jockey first Trained greyhounds for a hobby in 1996 and has
already tasted a fair amount of success for a Trainer with a
limited number of dogs. He moved to Crews House in 2001 and has
since created a modern Training complex to his own
specifications. He took the Track Championships in 2001 (Boujelou
Shane), 2002 (Rising Tower) and 2003 (Knighton Charlie).
Crews House, set in picturesque and
peaceful surroundings consists of 3 acres and contains 2 very
large rearing paddocks and 3 concrete paddocks. There is a 400
yard grass gallop (see pic) and a walking machine. The
establishment is only 10 miles away from Swindon racetrack.
The above named Knighton Charlie
was one the best greyhounds to have been in Alan's care. He went
through an entire season unbeaten over Swindon's 480m trip and
claimed the scalp of Farloe Brazil along the way. Ziggy Girl
still holds the track record for 905m at Nottingham. Mista
Fahrenheit was beaten only 2 lengths in the £15,000 Produce
Stakes Final in 2006 and Alan has also had a Finalist in the
Puppy Oaks at Nottingham. He also took several Opens with the
hugely talented sprinter Gaytime Duncan. Alan is always happy to
travel with his better dogs.
The majority of the dogs Trained
at Crews House are bred, reared and schooled at the kennels.
Alan has a very good veterinary
background and easily diagnoses and treats all the greyhounds in
his care assisted by all the latest technology including Magna
Pulse and Ultrasound. He is assisted at the kennel full-time by
his wife Debbie (who is also in charge of all the
administration!) and are assisted by 2 part-time staff. Alan and
the team very proud of their home finding work for the
greyhounds in their care. Training fees are £5.50 per day.
