Gary Sallis
first became seriously involved with greyhounds when working as
a kennel hand to Geroge Curtis in 1977. A job as Head Lad
followed with Gordon Hudson before Gary took out his own license
in 2000. Initially unattached, he had a spell at Reading before
moving to his current track Sittingbourne in 2003.
Gary has quickly established
himself as one of the leading trainers at the Kent track with a
near 25% strike-rate in graded races and 2005 saw Gary send out
some 70 Open winners.
Always willing to travel with his
better dogs who have a realistic chance of winning, Gary has
already won the £3,000 Countrywide Steel & Tubes Vase at
Crayford with Droopys Regina and Sunshine Sophie broke the track
record when winning the Spring Trophy at the same track. The
kennel have been represented in several Finals including the
Springbok, Reading Masters, Brighton Belle, the Kent Derby, the
Arc, the Northern Oaks (twice), the Midland Oaks and the Golden
Sprint (twice).
With one main kennel block Gary and
his wife Carolyn prefer to train a smaller number of greyhounds
so each one can be given all the attention they need. Gary
enjoys bringing on the younger dogs and doesn't believe in
rushing the greyhounds in his care.
Carolyn has been involved in
greyhound racing for some 30 years and carries out all the
physio treatment on the injured greyhounds at the kennel and has
all the latest equipment to hand.
Gary has a kennel strength of 32
and his facilities include 8 paddocks and a 200 yard gallop and
the kennels are located near picturesque woods, ideal for
walking your dogs. Gary always has greyhounds
available for sale at realistic prices.
