Barrie Draper
first became involved with greyhounds when his dad had dogs
running on the flapping tracks and has been working with
greyhounds since he was 17 years old. He spent 4 years working
under the master
trainer Joe Bull as a kennel hand before taking out his own
professional license. Barrie had a spell at Derby
before moving to Sheffield in 1988 where he trains today.
Barrie has won most of the major
competitions in the North and although he is a trainer who is
always looking forward and not dwelling on past achievements, he
is proud to have trained two Derby Finalists in Farloe Pocket
(3rd) and He Knows (2nd) and both of these are still at the
kennel with Barrie.
Barrie always has pups coming
through and regularly has new talent grading onto the card at
Sheffield. Poultry Farm is set in 8 acres of land and has room
for 75 greyhounds. All the facilities here from the gallop to
the paddocks and kennels are ideally situated and well planned,
giving easy and immediate access to the whole establishment.
This is an ideal
set-up for training and breeding greyhounds. The farm has 2
kennel blocks and several large grass paddocks giving the
greyhounds all the freedom they need. Barrie has all the latest
facilities for treating greyhound injuries and has 5 full-time
staff supporting him as well as 3 part-time. |
