Martyn Wiley is based at The Gable Kennels, a stylish training
complex based in Wickford. Martyn took over the
license from his father Ernie in 2000 and has around 70
greyhounds on the graded strength at Romford.
The Gable Kennels have produced Open and Graded winners for the
last 30 years, having started at Ipswich before spending 10
years at Hackney. Throughout this time until present day the
kennel strength has remained constant with over 100 greyhounds.
The kennels are very much a family set-up with all the latest
facilities. A swimming pool, gallop and all the latest equipment
for treating greyhounds are all under one roof in this
picturesque establishment consisting of 4 acres and containing
over 30 paddocks. With the dogs able to exercise all year round
whatever the weather conditions, it is no wonder that the Wiley
family consistently send out winner after winner at Romford
Stadium.
They
have always had their own breeding programme and greyhounds are
bred, reared and schooled at the
kennels. An important part of training greyhounds is a good
back-up team and at The Gable Kennels Martyn has team of 5 staff
supporting him. 2006 saw Muintir Geal seal Romford Dog of the
Year and Alrita Lilac secure Romford Bitch of the Year.
Many owners have been with Martyn and his father for over 20
years and kennel visits on Sundays are always
very busy! You will see between 30 and 40 owners arrive, many
with children, to walk their dogs - creating a
warm, friendly and family environment.
Since 2006 the Kennels have set out
an ongoing improvement plan, having built new Kennel Blocks,
bringing our already high standards into luxury status for both
our Greyhounds and Owners.
