06th to 14th February 2006

14th Feb 06 William Hill Springbok Final, Wimbledon. Kaysers Hill took a dramatic race when taking the lead at the 4th hurdle and holding off the persistent challenge of Yet Another Matt in second by 3/4 of a length. It was an incredibly disappointing night for Ray Peacock as his second favourite Polo Wood, stumbled and fell at the third hurdle.
14th Feb 06 Ladbrokes.com Arc - Walthamstow, First round

Heat 1 Ballymac Rooster recorded a 4.89 sectional to go clear in the opening Heat for Carly Philpott and although his lead was dramatically reduced in the latter stages he was able to hold on by a rapidly diminishing 2 1/2 lengths and 3 lengths from the Seamus Cahill duo of Lenson Treasure and Get On Blackie. Ballymac Rooster recorded 29.04.

Heat 2 Greenlough Power made all in 29.12 to deny Ninja Blue by a length. Paul Garland's Denwood Star qualified for round 2 in third but Spoofy Doo for Mark Wallis lost all chance after suffering trouble at the first and is out.

Heat 3. Milldean Billy gave Seamus Cahill his third qualifier of the night when eventually getting the better of the front-running Blonde Trooper to score by 1/2 length in 29.14. Kindred Rebel qualified in 3rd for Mick Puzey.

Heat 4. Paul Garland will be mightily relieved to see his Vancouver Sparky safely through after his leading contender stumbled coming out of the boxes. Vancouver Sparky did well to turn second to Velvet Rebel and that's the way it stayed throughout. Garland's runner was 2 3/4 lengths adrift at the line but still recorded 29.06 for the 475m trip.

Heat 5. Carly Philpott recorded a double when Ballymac Magnet showed great back straight pace to take up the running and beat the Mark Wallis trained Special Deal by 4 1/4 lengths in 29.06. Seomra Rock (5/2f) and Thats The Bullet (3/1) both failed to qualify.

Heat 6. Fear Myjames disappointed last time out in Maiden Open company but Mark Wallis's dog confirmed the immense promise he had already shown when winning on his debut by taking this fiercely competitive race. With trouble galore at the first, Fear Myjames did extremely well to turn in front and looked good when coming home 2 1/2  lengths clear of Droopys Best Man with Erinaceous Star (7/4f) a further length away in 3rd.

Heat 7. Brave Falcon was down on his nose coming out of the traps but he still showed excellent early pace to lead the field and hold on by the narrowest of margins to beat Glinconor Glen. Moscow Sandy was another qualifier for Mark Wallis in third.

Heat 8. Ante-post favourite Mahers Boy recorded a trap to line success in the Final Heat and was impressive when coming home 3 3/4 lengths clear of Gee Vee in the second quickest time of the night (28.91). Mick Puzey's Clonbrin Owl is through to Saturday's second round after taking 3rd.

14th Feb 06 Wimbledon staged a fantastic one-off puppy contest on their Springbok card and Bubbly Tojo looks to be a greyhound right out of the top drawer after destroying a quality field in an electric 27.47 for the 460m trip. Penn Lacey was some 6 lengths adrift at the line with a further 2 1/2 lengths back to Brian Clemenson's Coventry Bees. Clemenson's other Derby hopeful Bubbly Classic clocked an impressive 27.70 when recording an easy 4 lengths success from Droopys Biondi.
13th Feb 06 Top Dog 2006 officially got under way at Crayford with the start of the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket and Roxholme Girl set the standard for Carly Philpott when making all to claim her Heat by 1 1/2 lengths from Hondo Blue. Her time of 45.66 was easily the fastest of the night.

The opening Heats were incredibly competitive with several leading contenders for outright honours suffering defeats. Blackmagic Guy (7/4) for Mark Wallis and Greenacre Lin (7/4) for Brian Clemenson were both 3rd but are safely through. Greenacre Lin's Heat was the race of the night with only a neck and 3/4 of a length separating the first three home, with Caloona Striker getting up on the line to deny Solid Money who tried to make all. Clemenson won Heat 3 with Shebas Magic (46.48), a race that saw Romford Car Two eliminated when finishing last at 7/4.

Jim Reynolds, who has sent out several winners at Romford in recent weeks took Heat 5 with Paradiso who scooted clear and had enough in reserves to hold off the running-on odds-on shot Fabulous Sophie by 1 1/4 lengths in 46.12. Other Heat winners were Borna Circle (45.80) and Bepe Black (46.34).

13th Feb 06 Vancouver Sparky figures prominently in the ante-post market for the Ladbrokes.com Arc and Trainer Paul Garland is looking forward to seeing his charge run in the first round on Tuesday. "He's had a rest after the Irish Laurels last year (reached Final) so he goes into the Arc a fresh dog. He seems to be running Walthamstow better this year and is a more mature dog than last year" stated Garland who nominated the Arc as the competition he would most like to win in 2006. Vancouver Sparky, who made all to beat Fear Assassin last time out in a calculated 28.82 goes in Heat 4 and you can see his race and all the opening Heats live on Channel 425.
13th Feb 06 Ballymac Niloc will start the Final of the Coors Fine Light Beer Provincial Cup at very cramped odds after romping home in Heat 3 by 8 1/4 lengths at Nottingham. Carly Philpott's charge went 26 spots quicker than Heat 1 winner Canary Sky and some 47 spots faster than Droopys Lena in Heat 2.
13th Feb 06 BAGS update. Jane Houfton secured another treble at Sheffield when How Dare You took the concluding handicap at odds of 9/4. 12th Feb 06 Brian Clemenson takes the Emerald Bookmakers Cup Final with Shelbourne Poopa to give the Billingshurst handler his first major win of 2006. Shelbourne Poopa was very quickly away and never saw another dog when making all to land the £10,000 first prize from Bell Legend (Mark Wallis) by 3 lengths. Mark Wallis's Ronnies Champion suffered early trouble and was never able to get on terms and nor was Roxholme Silks (5th) for Carly Philpott.
12th Feb 06 Ian Aylward and Carly Philpott's mini-websites are now on-line. Click on their names to view their sites.
11th Feb 06 Gary Baggs's mentioned in our Interviews section how he was pleased to end the year with so many winners. He will be even happier now as his relentless run of form just goes on and on. His kennel sealed a four-timer at Walthamstow which follows  4 hat-tricks and a five-timer in little over two weeks. Annandale Cheif, Droopys Delight, Droopys Halle and Cape Snow all oblige whilst a further 3 runners finished second for the in-form handler.
11th Feb 06 Droopys Lord, Blasket Jo, Jomax Roofer and Top Legend all win at Romford as Maxine Locke secures a four-timer. Top Legend's A1 success secured a hat-trick for the son of Top Honcho who was running in A3 grade on 28th January.

10th Feb 06 Polo Wood suffered a narrow defeat in his Springbok Semi-Final when looking set to make all for Ray Peacock. Showing good early pace he was caught close home by Yet Another Matt who claimed the spoils by half a length. Both go through to Tuesday's Final. Senahel Leon won the second Semi for Seamus Cahill, the 5/2 chance suffered trouble in running but took it up on the run-in and held on by a head from Borodale Hawk. Dechardom caused a shock when taking the last of the Semis, denying Kaysers Hill by a head at 20/1.
10th Feb 06 John Simpson secured a treble at Wimbledon when Snow Maiden, Killowney Velvet and Cooleview Blue all scored.
10th Feb 06 Jim Reynolds's kennel look to be in fine form and he registered a trio of Open wins on Romford's card. Smooth Max took the Coral.co.uk Hurdles, Fine Top the Coral.co.uk Puppies and Black Mist Boy landed the Coral.co.uk Stayers.
09th Feb 06 Brian Clemenson has very high hopes for Coventry Bees and the son of Go Wild Teddy is due to run at Wimbledon on Tuesday 14th, his first start since recording a 9 lengths win at Oxford on 31st January. He faces no easy task drawn in Trap 2 with Fear Whitesox (Mark Walllis) on his inside and Snazzy Rover (Seamus Cahill) in 3. The race also sees Bubbly Tojo (previously named Droopys Tojo) in trap 6 make his first start since recording a hatrick back in October last year. Penn Lacey in 5 recorded 27.77 around Wimbledon last time out. The race is one of many on a quality Springbok card at Plough Lane.

08th Feb 06 Champion Trainer Mark Wallis has had a slow start to the year by his high standards but Ronnies Champion went quickest in the second Semi-Final of the Emerald Bookmakers Cup clocking 29.09 (+30) when making all. Wallis's Bell Legend also qualified after taking 3rd in the first Semi to give him two in the Final.
08th Feb 06 Brian Clemenson's Shelbourne Poopa got the better of thrilling duel with the Carly Philpott trained Roxholme Silks to win her Semi-Final of the Emerald Bookmakers Cup in 29.27 (+30). 08th Feb 06 Haunting Vieri made all to win the £3,000 Greene King IPA Cup at Harlow by a length from the slightly unlucky in-running Fear No Battle for Mark Wallis. There was better news for Wallis earlier in the evening when Black Bower was an easy winner of the £500 Inbev Stakes.
