The Jim Wragg Trophy Final
Sheffield. Droopys Sporty saw his track record from the
Semi-Finals smashed as Tinrah Lad made all in 43.04. Droopys
Sporty, for local trainer
Barrie Draper started odds-on but ran on all too late and
eventually went down by 1/2 length in the £1,000 showpiece. St
Leger winner Greenacre Lin was 3rd for
Brian Celemenson. |
|
21st Jan 06 |
Speak Out Sam, Mustang Memphis and
Drimeen Flashing all win at Sittingbourne to give
Brian Booth a
hat-trick on the card. |
|
21st Jan 06 |
Pre-Awards Gala Night at
Walthamstow. Despite some of his stronger fancies being beaten,
namely Lethal Rumble, Special Deal and Fear Whitesox, it was
still a good night for Mark
Wallis as he landed 4 races on the card, 3 of them Opens.
Sol Late Late took Division I of the Arc Trials by a neck from
Kindred Rebel, Moscow Sandy took Div IV and Black Bower sealed
the Open race hat-trick (Bert Mills 90th Birthday Stakes) whilst
Vigorous Whitney landed the opening A4 contest. |
|
21st Jan 06 |
Pre-Awards Gala Night at
Walthamstow. Paul Garland
had a night to remember as his improving hurdler Ballymac Ron
took the £1,000 Mark Wallis/Imperial Kennels Champion Trainer
2005 Stakes. Despite stumbling badly at the second hurdle he
made all to deny Mustang Hero by 1/2 length at odds of 10/1.
Vancouver Sparky, nominated as a dog to follow in 2006 by
Garland, landed the Div II Arc Trial by a comfortable length
from Goodwood Cup winner Abbot Pete. |
|
21st Jan 06 |

Walthamstow. Milldean Billy
initiated a double on the card for
Seamus Cahill with an
awesome front-running performance to deny Clonbrin Owl by 4
lengths in The Neeliz Adik Hamburger Eating Stakes. His time of
28.78 was fastest of the night. Snazzy Rover, nominated by his
trainer as one to follow in 2006 (see Trainer Interviews) ran a
blinder to lead early from Fear Whitesox and held on by a length
from the running on Kelleroo in the £1,000 Mim's Little Girl
Stakes in 29.11. |
|
21st Jan 06 |
Pre-Awards Gala Night at
Walthamstow. Mick Puzey
had several near misses on the night but his Silbury Ruby showed
a liking for the marathon trip and qualified for the Final of
the Pepsi Marathon when taking second to Bepe Black in Heat 2.
Brian Clemenson's Glengar
Leader is also through after taking
2nd in Heat I. Lady Minstral, Soviet Isis, and Alabama Star were
the other qualifiers. |
|
18th Jan 06 |
William Hill Gold Cup Semis. Honcho
Away was a shock winner at 16/1 in the opening Heats on Saturday
and he follows up in a very eventful Semi-Final at the same odds!
With trouble galore between all the principles it was the
Paul Young runner who came
late and fast to collar Rhincrew Stevie on the line with
Mark Wallis's Roswell
Spaceman qualifying in 3rd. Bat On, Ballymac Rooster and Zigzag
Kit all out of the competition. |
|
18th Jan 06 |
Paul Sallis's runners continue to
perform with real credit at Coventry and Drive Up Boss, Hey Ho
Lets Go and Neat Coalminer all win to give him a treble on the
card. |
|

The Jim Wragg Stayers Trophy
opening Heats got under way at Sheffield and
Barrie Draper's Droopys
Sporty breaks the track record when winning Heat 2 in 43.28 by 9
3/4 lengths from kennelmate Dukeries Fern. The eagerly
anticipated clash between Greenacre Lin and Blackmagic Guy in
Heat 1 never materialised as the last hit the rails at the 3rd.
Greenacre Lin went on to record a comfortable win for
Brian Clemenson,
making all in 43.65. Alchemist Reward takes Heat 3 for
Jane Houfton in 43.70. |

away happy after seeing Serenpidity Dog (28.78), Polo Spirit
(also 28.78) and Tally Ho Rocket (29.06) win 3 of the trials on
offer. Kaysers Hill was having his last run for
Pat Rosney after being

impressive fashion by beating Polo Wood 5 lengths in a very fast
28.34. |

William Hill Gold Cup News. Honcho
Away was a shock 16/1 winner of Heat 2 with a fine front-running
performance at Sunderland to make the long journey north well
worthwhile for Paul Young.
Mark Wallis's Roswell
Spaceman also through but Fear Assassin and Sol Late Late both
out. Ballymac Rooster makes a welcome return to action for
Carly Philpott
and justifies 11/10 favouritism to take Heat 3 by 3 lengths. |
|

Paul Sallis
has his string in red hot form right now and Driving Up Henry,

four-timer for the Milton Keynes based handler at Coventry. But
there was disappointment for Sallis as Driving Up Rob, ante-post
favourite for the Coronation Cup at Romford crashed out of the
competition after suffering trouble in running and came home 5th
in his Semi-Final. |
|
13th Jan 06 |
Ray Peacock in treble
form at Wimbledon as Mustang Coo, Baran Rumble and Bang On all

card and there was no stopping
Mick Puzey who took both
divisions of the Arc Trials with Goodwood Cup winner Abbot Pete

also on the mark with Optimistic Berty and Silbury Ruby who
upset warm favourite Ronnies Champion when winning going away at
the line by 3 3/4 lengths. |

massive outsider Droopys Lomasi, a 25/1 shot (only runner to
avoid trouble when making all) as the main principles suffered
early trouble in running. Droopys Lomasi qualified for the
Juvenile by winning the Puppy Derby at 12/1 in August having
started her career in an A5 at Milton Keynes back in March 2005!
Congratulations go to all connections. |
