John Gammon has
been a licensed trainer since 1975. Having spent his early
career at Ramsgate, short spells at Canterbury and Catford
followed before he took up a lucrative contract to train at Hove
in 1997.
John has, and is continuing to improve the quality of greyhounds
in his kennel. Family commitments had made it difficult for John
to travel on a frequent basis but now that his daughter
Charlotte (pictured below who now works for her father) has
completed her academic studies, John and his team are willing to
travel anywhere with their better dogs.
The kennels boast the very latest
facilities including one of the largest schooling tracks in the
country. The track is 490m and also has traps positioned for
sprint trials at 216m or 278m. There is also a 250 yard all
weather gallop for flat and hurdles. Both facilities have their
own watering system. The track, run by Bob Young is open to the
public. Please call the above numbers for more information.
John is meticulous in the welfare
of his greyhounds and takes great interest in how to treat those
suffering with injuries. He has all the latest physio, ultra
sound equipment available and also has a walking machine.
John always has
a continual flow of graded winners at Hove but has also had
several winners and finalists in top competitions. Four White Sox was a
Finalist in the Pepsi Marathon and Charlie The Layer was a red
hot favourite for the Champion Stakes at Romford, only to
stumble coming out of the boxes in his Final. Earlier that year
'Charlie' had won the Tony Morris Trophy at Wimbledon on Derby
Final night at odds-on. John also trained Cloran Major who was a
prolific winning hurdler who took the Champion Hurdle two years
running.
With a kennel strength consistently in excess of 60 greyhounds
John will always have one or two dogs available for sale but
would be more than happy to find the right dog for you to suit
your requirements. He has several good and trusted contacts
built up over several years.
Cosmic Kennels are based in a
secluded area of Heathfield, surrounded by 55 acres of woodlands
and country walks, ideal for owners who like to visit their
greyhounds and take them for walks. |
