Ian Aylward has been
involved with greyhounds since the age of 14 when he
used to have his own dogs at home. With over 30 years of
experience, it is surprising it was not until 2001 that
he decided to take out his own license. What is not
surprising, is the amount of success he has had in a
relatively short period as a licensed trainer.
Ian
sent of Baliff King to win the Regal St Mungo Cup Final
at Shawfield in 2002 and countless Open winners quickly
followed including Baliff Spring (now a brood at the
kennel), who was runner up in the John Smith's National
Oaks Final.
Initially unattached in
2001, Ian had brief spells at Kinsley and Doncaster
before moving to Belle Vue in January 2006.
Baliff Diesel, (black
dog pictured right), won 4 out of 5 starts
in October 2005 and landed the £2,000 Brakes Food
Service Autumn Puppy Cup at Nottingham. He won his Final
by 6 lengths and had Fear Me, who he had already beaten
in the Semis, behind him for a second time.
Baliff Diesel is from a
superb litter, whelped, reared and schooled by Ian and
all 8 are either Open class or have reached A3 class at
worst. Ian has yet to breed a greyhound that has failed
to chase. Ian uses all the best stud dogs available and
has proven quality broods at his kennel.
Ian moved to his present
kennels in June 2005. The Baliff prefix derived from his
last accommodation, Baliff Cottage. His present
kennels are set in 7 acres of land and he currently
boasts a kennel strength of 50.
As well as a 200 yard
grass gallop, the most impressive facility is his
all-sand schooling track which he built himself. The
track is 380m and is used exclusively for schooling
pups. Anyone interested in using the facility can
contact Ian, but due to the tight nature of the track it
is unsuitable for anything other than pups.
There are sometimes racers
for sale from Ian's kennels but there are always pups.
